Tuesday, March 3, 2020
On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, all Juniors will be taking the ACT + Writing Test. By state law, the ACT is being provided for all 11th graders in Wisconsin and results are reported back to the state. It is also an opportunity for all of our juniors to receive a college-reportable ACT score.
To ensure that schools are able to provide the right environment for the ACT, March 3rd will be a "Juniors Only" day, meaning no students other than juniors will be in attendance at each high school. Because the ACT requires strict guidelines and practices for administration, having a district-wide “Juniors Only” day is the best way we can provide our students with the right environment to take the ACT. We recommend that 9th, 10th and 12th grade students conduct visits to local colleges and meet with enrollment officials, engage in job shadowing or community service on this day.
"Bubble Day" - There is a pre-test portion of the ACT which Juniors will complete prior to the test which includes filling in ("bubbling" on a scantron) demographic information. Students will be assigned a time to do this on Wednesday, February 25th. This must be done BEFORE test day or students WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THE TEST ON MARCH 3RD.
East is offering two options for FREE ACT prep at East High School for all 11th grade students.
Option 1: Two half day sessions at EHS - periods 5-7 on 1/30/20 and periods 1-4 on 2/10/20.
Students who register are required to attend both half day sessions and will be responsible to making up any class work they miss during these times. Students who register will receive additional information via email about details regarding rooms to report to and what to bring. Registration will close at 4pm on Jan 24th.
Option 2: Saturday mornings (9-11am) in February.
A different part of the ACT will be covered each session. Taught by East Teachers. Register online or contact your school counselor for more information.

Contact Counselor, Robin Murphy-Sinha at 204-1637 with any questions.
A free pancake breakfast will be provided by East staff in the cafeteria from 7:00-8:00am. All 11th graders are encouraged to attend.
Lunch will NOT be served on this day.
Juniors will be released upon completion of the test around 1:30pm.
Students who usually take the bus home in the afternoon should arrange alternate transportation. Madison Metro will not provide afternoon early release supplemental bus service on this day (the buses in front of school on E. Washington). However, the regular, main line bus service will still be available at Metro bus stops.
Students should be in their assigned testing room by 8:00am on testing day.
All students will be required to abide by the ACT Testing Requirements.
Any student found in violation of these requirements will be removed from testing and their test will not be scored.
Student Requirements for test day:
- Bring a valid photo ID. Students will not be admitted to their test rooms without an ID.
- Bring No. 2 pencils.
- Bring a calculator. Please refer to these CALCULATOR GUIDELINES about allowable calculators. Students responsible for knowing if their calculator meets ACT standards of use. If students don't have a calculator, one will be provided to them for use during testing.
- NO CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES! THERE IS NO CELL PHONE/ELECTRONIC DEVICE USE AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING DURING THE BREAKS. STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED FROM TESTING AND THEIR SCORES WILL BE CANCELLED IF CELL PHONES ARE FOUND.
Students who missed the test on March 3rd were scheduled to take the "Make-Up" test on March 17th. Due to the closure of schools, that make-up test has been cancelled. Because of this, the district will cover the cost of a Saturday make-up test in June or July 2020. Students who would like to do this should email Assistant Principal, Maggie Zywicki, with the test day they have chosen. We can only pay for students who were absent on the original March 3rd test day. Registration information and test dates can be found on the ACT website.
