Lincoln Elementary Educator Wins 'Grand Slam Teacher' Award from the Milwaukee Brewers

While baseball season is still in pre-season, an advanced learning teacher at Lincoln Elementary School is already winning the MVP title. Jennifer Kilburg was surprised by the Milwaukee Brewers with the Grand Slam Teacher of the Month Award during an all-school assembly Wednesday, accompanied by her family and the Brewers’ well-known Racing Sausages. The award is presented to school staff who make "a significant impact on the lives of the children in their community."

Kilburg was nominated last year by then-fourth grader, Kayden, who credited Kilburg with helping him explore his love of writing. In his nomination letter for Kilburg, he wrote how she went above and beyond to help the school receive donations to provide him with a Chromebook over the summer so he could write and publish his own book.

"Jen is an amazing educator and is part of this strong and committed community of educators at Lincoln," Principal Abby Watson said. "The student was so proud when he found out she won. She cares deeply about her students and is always looking for ways to help them."

As part of the recognition, Kilburg also received a $1,000 check to support Lincoln Elementary School. The students and staff enjoyed the beloved tradition of the Racing Sausages, who lapped around the gymnasium.

"The young people in our city, in our world, they’re our future,” Kilburg said. “I think there’s so much power in being a teacher and the impact we have on the future."
