  • Are you passionate about working on local climate solutions? The Wisconsin Alliance for Climate Education engages high school fellows and supports young, emerging leaders from a variety of backgrounds, skills, and interests who demonstrate a budding passion for climate issues and want to make a positive impact in their community. Participants do NOT need to be top academic performers. It is, however, a great experience to put on resumes and college applications! The application deadline is Sunday, February 16, 2020 with Fellowship cohorts kicking off in March 2020.

  • Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Wanda Fullmore Internship Program! This exciting opportunity for City of Madison High School students is a paid, 8-week internship that pairs students with different government departments in the City of Madison. Interns will work 20 hours a week with their departments and will receive professional development trainings every Friday to complement their on-the-job training. New to this year, interns will collaborate on a group project during their professional development time which will reinforce what they learn in their departments and allow them to work together on a project focused on civic engagement and learning how their local government works. In order to be considered students must reside in the City of Madison limits and submit a completed Application Packet (which includes both a Youth Application and Parent/Guardian permission form) and attend one open interview time (East Open Interviews: Wednesday, February 19th at 4pm in LMC Purple). For more information, contact Annie Johnston, the Youth Workforce Development Manager at Common Wealth Development, at, 608.256.3527 x17 (office) or 608.220.8155 (cell).

  • Denaria X, East High Senior, Noah Anderson, West High Senior, and have spent two months planning for the beginning of an All-City BSU. The organization would bring East, West, Memorial and La Follette High School BSUs together to advocate for change in MMSD for Black students. The group plans to partner with people from the community on bigger projects, using art and poetry to share their stories. Members also want to create and lead Black Student Unions in MMSD middle schools and be role models for younger students.
